The (Bi)Weekly S.C.R.O.L.L.
This is actually a mash-up of the last two weeks.
Last weekend, I hosted and vended at a holiday market where I sold a single item. This weekend, Suze and I met my side of the family in Phoenix, AZ for our annual Hanukkah get-together. And next week is Christmas. The week after that? New Year’s. It’s the holiday season, or whatever, and I haven’t been this busy since I lived in New York. So, you’re getting two weeks worth of updates in one S.C.R.O.L.L. today.
S. Scrolling: My faves in interviews on TikTok
First, Vince Staples on Ziwe. One of my fave artists was, as Ziwe would say, an iconic guest. Last Thursday, I spent a solid half hour scrolling the 23-minute interview in a series of clips on TikTok. Their shared millennial online-ness resonates in a very powerful way with me. In particular, this clip of Vince Staples saying he’d rather have “both, twins” when asked the modern classic, “gay son or thot daughter?”
Lucy Dacus was on Las Culturistas, one of my favorite podcasts, last Wednesday. Her “I Don’t Think So Honey,” a segment of the pod in which the hosts + guests describe something in culture they’re opposing, was about how we should stop gatekeeping and start letting people experiment with less pressure to stick to something.
Sometimes, you have to try the costume before it becomes the clothes… Sometimes, we have a boy with a dangly earring, and then you wait five years, beautiful women on your hands.
